Essentials » Chaplain – Nick George

Nick was ordained in Ripon (now Leeds) Diocese in 1989, and ministered in the City of Leeds until 2002 when he moved to Southwark to become the Vicar of St Giles with St Matthew, Camberwell, a post he still holds today. He has really enjoyed being part of that parish and community for more than 20 years, and is looking forward to building up new friendships within the Colleges.

Nick was raised an Anglo-catholic, and during his extensive parochial ministry he has always been open to different traditions, therefore holding him in good stead in the Colleges. In more recent years, Nick has been able to train in, practice and now teach spiritual direction, these opportunities for deeper discernment is a development of his vocation. Nick will develop this listening accompaniment alongside his part-time responsibilities as Chaplain.

Before ordination, Nick worked in the field of civil and structural engineering as a draughtsman.

Enhancing his ministry, Nick enjoys walking, reading and visiting art galleries and museums. He and his civil-partner hope to move to Bromley during August ready for his formal licensing.

Nick says: ” I am looking forward to this new phase of my ministry, sharing in the pastoral care and worship of the Colleges. The staff, collegians and trustees have maintained and developed the community of Bromley & Sheppards as a welcoming, thriving, beautiful and prayerful community. I look forward to living in that community, listening & learning together – discerning our continuing vocation to live as children of God.”

Please hold Nick in your prayers as he prepares to move and begins his new ministry amongst the collegian community here.
